What mistakes should you not make when buying a poker table?
We at mecshop.nl are run by professional poker player Mathijs Jonkers and tournament director Evert-Jan van IJzendoorn. Both have years of experience in the poker world. They have learned from their mistakes and would like to give you Anzahl tips when buying a poker table.
Tip 1: Buy your poker table at a specialty shop.
When you search for poker tables on google you will see several websites come up. These include websites such as Wish, XL Concurrent or Vida XL. Mathijs & Evert-Jan's advice is: "Do not buy the tables they offer. The tables offered by these providers are very low budget and of poor quality. The table top is often foldable (read further on in this article why that is inconvenient). The legs are awkward to assemble and the tables are often unstable. In addition, these tables lack dust under the playing surface, making it difficult to pick up cards from the table. The leather rim is also of a much lower quality than in the specialty stores. Are you going for these tables anyway? If so, take into account that they are of inferior quality, and cheap could become expensive. Specialty stores offer besides poker tables also quality poker sets and poker cards .

Tip 2: Don't buy a poker table with a foldable table top
Some poker tables have a foldable table top. There are poker tables with one fold in the middle and tables with even 2 folds. This type of poker table is known to be very unstable. The table wobbles a lot on its poker and there is always a bump in the playing field, which can launch the cards upwards when you are dealing. For this reason, we do not carry tables with folding tops.Â
Tip 3: Choose the right size table
Poker tables come in various shapes and sizes. The largest poker tables are 3 meters long and 1 meter 40 wide. The small round poker tables are the smallest available and often have a diameter of 90 centimeters. Your main criteria for choosing the right poker table size are 1. the space you have, 2. the purpose of your poker table and 3. with how many people you want to sit at it.Â

We recommend the round poker table when you don't have that much room and usually want to play poker with a small group of friends. The table is suitable for up to 8 players, but we find the table most convenient for up to 6 players.Â
Poker table 215 cm longÂ
The poker table of 215 centimeters long is actually the most bought poker table. It is a cheap entry-level model for everyone who organizes a tournament or wants to play poker at home. The table is not too big and can seat 10 players. If you sit at the table with a fixed dealer, there is room for 9 players and a dealer. Personally we find it a bit cramped to sit with 9 players and a dealer at the 215cm long table. If you expect to sit with a total of 10 people, we recommend you use a slightly larger table.Â
Poker table 240 cm longÂ
The 240 cm long poker tables are almost the same as the 215 cm long tables, but there is just a bit more room. The circumference of a 240 cm long table is 50 centimeters more in total. That means there's a little more room for each player. The 240-cm poker tables are suitable for tournaments, fixed dealer cash games, and are widely used in home games.Â
Tables larger than 240 cm
Tables longer than 240cm are considered as luxury poker tables. They offer a lot of space for the player, and are generally more expensive. If you want a real professional look, we recommend a table of say 265cm long.Â
Tip 4: Want to be able to store your table? Buy a table with folding legs
Some people buy a poker table for their mancave and leave it there at all times. But other people only want to bring the table out when they are going to play a game, after which the table has to be stored away again. In that case, we recommend you to buy a poker table with foldable legs. The folding tables we offer on mecshop.nl are lightweight and have a good folding system.Â
Tip 5: Table with or without chiptray?
When you are going to buy a poker table, you will see that you will encounter tables with a chip tray and tables without a chip tray. The chip tray is a container that is made in the table, where you can put your chips. This tray is mainly used when there is a fixed dealer at the table. This is usually the case in cash games and tournaments with fixed dealers.Â
We really only recommend a chip tray if you want to use the table for a cash game with a fixed dealer. In all other cases a chip tray is not that useful. In tournaments, a chip tray is not necessary at all and when you play poker at home and everyone deals themselves, the chip tray is more often in the way then it is useful.Â
