Purposeful practice for poker

So you want to get better at poker? You are committed and willing to spend time on it? You ask for advice and what do people tell you? Probably something along the lines of 'keep working at it and you will get there'.

That is wrong. 'Just working at it' will not help you. Analysing random hands, watching poker on TV or vaguely looking at Equity equations will not get you there. The only approach that will work is the right kind of practice, based on a relatively new field, of psychological research - the science of expertise.
